Refined carbohydrates: Refined carbohydrates are fake foods that have been stripped of their nutrients and enter the bloodstream like an injection of sugar. Eating refined carbs triggers the release of insulin, which converts sugar into stored fat instead of supplying your body with fuel to build muscle. Turning to refined carbs to gain weight will also affect your insulin, cholesterol and triglyceride levels in a negative way.
